We are a global education and learning centre serving Dorset, Hampshire and South Wiltshire

We empower people to explore how their lives are interconnected and interdependent with other lives across the globe. We foster and develop deeper understandings of how important it is that these global connections should be fair, just and sustainable.

DEED supports education and innovation by encouraging and inspiring teachers, pupils and community members to develop their understanding of global issues and cultural diversity.

You can watch this short video to find out more about what we do.

We offer training for adults and teachers on a range of themes including Multicultural Britain, Sustainability, Global Learning and Black History. Our courses can be adapted to suit twilight, half-day, or whole day in your venue or at a central venue. We also have a wide range of hands-on resources available to borrow, hire and download.

Multicultural Britain

We help prepare children and young people for life in modern Britain by celebrating multiculturalism in our country. Our aim is to have people live together better by exploring the values we hold in common, such as mutual respect and fairness, whilst also accepting and exploring our differences.

Our training, workshops and resources explore the relationship between Britain and the rest of the world and celebrate the stories of Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people who have made an outstanding contribution to life in modern Britain, including Mary Seacole, Noor Inayat Khan and many, many others.  We can help you challenge stereotypes and create positive images of cultural diversity.

Sustainability

Climate change, the ecological crisis and the related losses of biodiversity are huge issues for the future that we need to tackle and find solutions for today. Our work at DEED is to support teachers and community leaders by encouraging in-depth study of these issues, looking at their local and global causes and the links between them, and examining potential solutions. Our workshops and training aim to inspire people to rethink their attitude to single-use items and move towards more sustainable alternatives.

We highlight the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a useful framework of 17 Global Goals which act as a powerful 'hook' around which lesson plans, resources and ideas can be developed.

Global Learning

We live in an interconnected world where everything we depend on – our clothes, food, cars and houses – in some way involves people and material resources around the world. This interdependence is part of the complex web of life, and our work is designed to help young people and adults understand the depth and breadth of these connections. Our workshops and training provide the space to think about the big issues, such as environmental sustainability, human rights, injustice and inequality.

As a locally-based global learning centre, we support educators to enable, empower and equip young people to make a difference and be informed, active and responsible global citizens.

Black History

Dorset has a richly diverse past and a vibrant black history. We want to discover, explore and share it with you. Missionaries, soldiers, servants, abolitionists, artists and performers have all lived and worked in Dorset for hundreds of years. Names like Andrew Bogle, Thomas Lewis Johnson, Thomas Wedderburn, Belle Davis, Joyce Marsh, John Stockley, John William Hill, Lilian Bader, Paul Nash, Carole Travers and Louisa Adjoa Parker may seem unfamiliar, but all have a story to tell.

Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people have contributed so much to our society, but because of the colour of their skin, their faith, or how they live their lives, they’ve often been ignored or excluded from traditional versions of our past. We value their stories which, time and again, raise questions about who we are, where we call home, and what it means to be British.

  • "I am pleased to provide a glowing recommendation for Louise Boston-Mammah, who recently conducted Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) training for a diverse group comprising volunteers, activity coordinators, and leadership personnel from ASCape, a charity supporting Autistic children and their families. Louise's training was exceptional, seamlessly blending insight with an interactive approach. Her ability to captivate the audience's attention ensured that the session was not only informative but also engaging. Louise fostered an inclusive environment where everyone felt not only safe to ask questions but also encouraged to share their personal experiences. What truly set Louise's training apart was the warm and welcoming atmosphere she created. Participants felt a sense of security, knowing that their questions and contributions were valued and respected. This approach significantly enhanced the overall learning experience and promoted a genuine exchange of ideas. I wholeheartedly recommend DEED for any organization seeking impactful EDI training that goes beyond the conventional, creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and inclusion is embraced."

Louise and DEED's specialism in Global Education has never been more relevant for schools seeking to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum that responds to the needs of all learners".
